We Should All Take a Trip Together! (Famous Last Words)

Why most group vacations never make it out of the group chat—and how to finally make yours happen.

We’ve all done it.

You’re sitting around having drinks with friends when someone says, “We should totally take a trip together!” Everyone agrees. Everyone gets excited. The ideas start flying.

One person wants a cruise. Another wants an all-inclusive resort. Someone asks if the kids can come. Someone else asks if they can specifically not come. One friend declares they’re “100% in” and then disappears from the group chat like they’re in the witness protection program.

Fast forward three months, and nobody has booked a thing. You’re all still sitting at the same restaurant talking about the trip that never happened.

Sound familiar?

As someone who plans group trips for a living, I can tell you this is completely normal. In fact, it’s probably the biggest reason so many great vacation ideas never make it past the group chat stage.

The good news? Once a group actually commits, some of the most fun, memorable vacations I’ve ever seen have been group trips.

Why Group Travel Creates Better Memories

Don’t get me wrong—I love a romantic getaway. I love a family vacation. I even love a solo adventure.

But there’s something different about traveling with a group.

Maybe it’s laughing so hard at dinner that people at nearby tables start laughing too. Maybe it’s discovering that your quietest friend becomes the life of the party after two frozen margaritas. Maybe it’s the inside jokes that somehow follow everyone home and get brought up years later.

The destination matters, of course. But when people tell stories about their favorite vacations, they’re usually talking about the people they shared them with.

Why Cruises Are Perfect for Groups

One of the reasons I love recommending cruises for groups is that everyone gets to vacation their own way.

Your husband can spend the afternoon watching sports. You can relax by the pool with a cocktail. Your adventurous friends can book a zipline excursion in port. Someone else can spend the day napping and ordering room service.

Then everyone meets up that evening and shares stories about their day.

Nobody has to agree on every activity. Nobody feels like they’re compromising their vacation. It’s one trip with a hundred different ways to enjoy it.

And despite what some people think, cruises can be one of the best vacation values out there. Your accommodations, meals, entertainment, kids’ programs, and transportation between destinations are already included. Everything else is optional. Want specialty dining, a beverage package, or a shore excursion? Great. Don’t want them? That’s perfectly fine too.

Why All-Inclusive Resorts Work So Well for Groups

All-inclusive resorts are another fantastic option, especially for travelers who like knowing most of their vacation costs upfront.

For many resorts, your accommodations, meals, drinks, entertainment, and activities are bundled into one price before you ever leave home. That simplicity makes it easy for groups to budget and relax once they arrive.

The biggest decision most days becomes whether you’re heading to the pool, the beach, or the swim-up bar.

Tough life, right?

The Biggest Mistake Group Organizers Make

Trying to do everything themselves.

I see it all the time, someone volunteers to organize the trip. Suddenly they’re answering dozens of text messages a day. They’re collecting deposits. They’re reminding people about deadlines. They’re answering passport questions. They’re explaining travel insurance. They’re repeating the same information over and over.

At some point, they’re wondering why they ever suggested the trip in the first place.

That’s where working with a travel advisor makes all the difference.

Instead of becoming the group’s unpaid event planner, you get to be part of the vacation too.

My Favorite Group Trips Aren’t Always the Biggest

When people hear “group travel,” they often imagine 50 people on a motorcoach.

The reality is that some of my favorite groups have been much smaller.

I’ve helped groups of girlfriends celebrate milestone birthdays. I’ve planned trips for couples who wanted to escape for a week with friends. I’ve worked with families celebrating anniversaries, retirements, graduations, and reunions. I’ve helped social clubs, dinner clubs, and coworkers turn travel dreams into reality.

You don’t need a huge group, you just need the right people.

So, Who’s Ready to Start the Group Chat?

If you’ve ever said, “We should all take a trip together someday,” consider this your sign.

Someday has a funny way of turning into never. Life is happening right now. The birthdays. The anniversaries. The retirements. The girls’ trips. The bucket-list adventures.

Those memories aren’t going to make themselves. And if the thought of coordinating everyone’s schedules, payments, questions, and opinions make you want to throw your phone into the nearest body of water, don’t worry. That’s what I’m here for.

At Life’s a Trip 365, I help groups plan cruises, all-inclusive resorts, and unforgettable adventures without the stress, confusion, and endless group text messages.

Because planning the trip should be almost as fun as taking it.

Ready to start talking about your next group getaway? Let’s make it happen.
